When Corbin was seven, he witnessed the death of his Da, Jarred Ramsay, (and by extension of his previous life, his brother). Now at that time, Jarred gave Corbin his glaive, (constructed for Jarred by Lord Talon of Altreas), instructing him in its use and powers. Corbin kept the glaive hidden, stashing it within the castle in Eidolon. The presence of the glaive - a very real item - in Eidolon gives the realm an additional purchase on reality. It was probably this that saved the realm in its darkest moment... Draegon had captured Jarred's murderer, Cyril, and he instructed Corbin, showing him how to use his powers to punish him. Inexperienced and angry, Corbin accidentally "popped" Cyril, killing him. Not long after, however, Corbin was captured by Cyril's friends. Blinded, aged to near death and convinced that his powers had been taken from him, he imagined his realm dying, slowly taken over by a nothingness such as he had heard of in The Neverending Story.
